Dania Ramirez biography



Dania is a  Latin American actress born in the Dominican Republic. She grew up living with her grandmother in a poor household. Her parents left for the United States when she was 6-months old, and she finally joined them in New York when she was age 10.m
She knew from a young age that she wanted to act. She was discovered by a model scout and cast in a soda commercial. She attended the Actor's workshop in New York City and moved to Los Angeles to pursue her acting career.


In 1997 Ramirez was cast as an extra in HBO's "Subway Stories," and she played Jay-Z's girlfriend in his 1998 music video "Streets is Watching." Several years later she landed a minor role in "She Hate Me" (2004). She also had bit parts in "Fat Albert" (2004), "X-Men: The Last Stand" (2006) and "Illegal Tender" (2007).

In 2007, Ramirez was cast in the NBC television series Heroes. She played the role of Maya Herrera, a character originally introduced in a graphic novel inspired by the series. She can generate a deadly disease when subjected to stress, and along with her twin brother Alejandro (Shalim Ortiz), they are on the run for murder. The following year, Ramirez landed roles in films like Ball Don’t Lie and The Fifth Commandment. She was also cast as Sadie in Quarantine and in the movie Brooklyn to Manhattan. In 2013, she became part of ABC's Devious Maids.
